Preparing for a Session

It's easy!

PLAN YOUR WARDROBE

Choose 2–3 outfits in solid, flattering colors. Avoid busy patterns, tiny prints and large or distracting logos — they can pull attention away from your face.

Bring several options if you're unsure. We'll choose together. Jackets, blazers and layers are especially helpful because they can give us multiple looks without a complete wardrobe change.

For a personal branding session, think beyond what looks good and consider what feels like your brand and where you plan to use the images.

FIT IS EVERYTHING

Well-fitted pieces photograph beautifully and immediately create a more polished look.

Make sure clothing is clean, pressed and wrinkle-free before arriving. Clothing that's excessively loose or overly tight can be distracting on camera.

Not sure about an outfit? Bring it. I'll help you make those last-minute styling decisions based on what photographs best.

GROOM AHEAD

Try not to schedule a haircut, beard trim, brow appointment or other major grooming service on the actual day of your session.

A couple of days beforehand gives everything time to settle into its natural, best-looking shape.

Also take a quick look at the little things: nails, roots, facial hair, chipped polish and dry lips. They're easy to forget but surprisingly noticeable in close-up headshots.

KEEP YOUR SKIN HAPPY

Healthy, well-rested skin photographs beautifully and generally requires less retouching.

Avoid experimenting with new skincare products, aggressive treatments, peels, self-tanners or anything else that could cause irritation immediately before your session.

MAKEUP & HAIR: ELEVATED

Aim for a polished version of you.

Professional makeup photographs wonderfully, but it isn't required. If you're doing your own, camera-ready makeup generally works better than extremely light everyday makeup.

Hair should look like you normally wear it — just a little more polished.

MIND THE DETAILS

Wear glasses every day? Bring them. They're part of your look, and we can manage glare in the studio.

Also bring any signature accessories you'd normally wear — jewelry, watches, glasses or other pieces that help you look and feel like yourself.

Oh and I have a lint roller on hand!

BRANDING? BRING IT ALL

Your branding photos should tell people something about who you are and what you do.

Consider bringing items you genuinely use in your business: your laptop, phone, planner, products, tools of your trade, packaging, books or anything visually connected to your work.

Don't bring props just to have props. Bring things that help tell your story.

ARRIVE A LITTLE EARLY

Give yourself enough time on session day that you're not rushing through the door. Arriving about 10 minutes early gives you time to settle in, check your clothing and ease into your session.

And don't skip eating because you're having photos taken. Eat normally, hydrate and come ready to have fun.

RELAX — THAT'S MY JOB

You don't need to know how to pose.

You don't need to practice expressions in the mirror.

And you definitely don't need to worry about what to do with your hands.

I'll guide you through posing, lighting, angles and expression every step of the way.

All you have to do is show up as yourself.
